Adult entertainment club to return to Southwest Michigan

DECATUR — Almost a year ago, Ken "Scooter" Miller and his wife, Ellen, of Mattawan, converted their adult entertainment club Scooter's Saloon into the country bar and restaurant Saddle Up.

But the new business at 105 N. Phelps St. in Decatur has been so bad, the Millers said they're going back to running an adult entertainment club starting this weekend.

"We just can't make any money. We thought the town would support us, but it's really bad. We can't make no money," said Ken Miller, who opened Scooter's Saloon in 1996. "We thought it would've helped out. We never should have switched.

"
The business will keep the Saddle Up name, Miller said.

Saddle Up will be open Thursdays through Sundays. It will host karaoke — the lone entertainment holdover from the previous incarnation — from 8 p.m. to midnight Thursdays and will be an adult entertainment club from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays through Sundays.

Miller said he will keep the kitchen, but scale back the menu.

In April, the Millers announced the change to Saddle Up and made a series of renovations. It opened May 5 and hosted live music and country line dancing, among other entertainment.

Miller said he is in the process of hiring dancers.
